DO NOT BUY THIS ADAPTERNov 04, 2008
By H. Hill I bought this adapter to use for travel. This adapter will not charge the kindle properly. I used it and it would not charge my kinde past a 20 minute charge after it was plugged in for 24 hours. I then plugged in the original and it charged the unit to full power. It is not worth it. SPend the extra $10 and get the official version. This one is a waste of money.

DO NOT BUY!May 08, 2009
By K. Hennek This charger does NOT work. I bought two so I would have one for a spare (I paid $6 or so for it); one seems to be charging the Kindle, but I didn't try the spare one I bought until just recently when I was on a trip. It is too loose to fit properly in the kindle to recharge it -the male part is too small. It just falls out! I never thought to check out the spare to see if it worked when I bought it - I just assumed that it WOULD work (I now realize I made a mistake) I emailed the provider to ask for a replacement and their response was:
Hi, thank you for contacting us. According to our records, you received the product(s) for over 30 Days already. The warranty period for the item(s) you have purchased has expired. Sorry, but we will not be able to replace or give you technical support for the product(s) you purchased.

Low amperage circuit, slow to charge, cheap cable. If the cost is cheap than you getting a cheap item.
If your looking for a Wall or Car Charger for the Kindle 1 I suggest the following:

Does Not Work!Feb 04, 2009
By Terrence P. Martin Doesn't work. Will not fully charge a Kindle. Unfortunately, the "official" Kindle charger has been out of stock for months. Thanks Amazon, I now own a $400.00 paperweight!!!

By Zor Not only didn't it charge my Kindle, it actually discharged both my and my wife's Kindles. It is worse than horrible. It can be destructive.
