You have to match the adapter with the specific light series. This means that Gold Crest series 12000, 36000, 37000 or 38000 are the appropriate lights for this particular adapter. This is a regulated AC adapter with an output of 4.8V. Perhaps the previous reviewer did not match up the adapter to the specific light as mine worked perfectly.

Works great as described. I like this one because it is labled MIGHTY BRITE on the back so you cant confuse it with the other 800 adapters that are filling some drawer somewhere that later can never be paired confidently with its corrisponding device.
No problems here eitherSep 12, 2008
By Melissa I also own this adapter and have no problems with it working with either of my Mighty Bright lights. I purchased mine together at a brick & mortar stitching shop, so I'm sure that helped prevent compatibility issues.

a waste of moneySep 13, 2006
By C. S. Brimmer i originally received the mighty bright adapter and light as a gift. i attached the adapter to the light (no batteries were in the light as directed) and plugged in the adapter, turned on the light; nothing happened - no light. i disconnected the adapter and put in batteries and the light worked great! then i tried the adapter again, w/o batteries, and it still didn't work. so i thought i got a bad adapter and ordered another adapter. i hooked it up and it worked great - for one night. the next night when i turned on the light the light didn't come on; i put in the batteries and the light worked. it's definitely a waste of money to buy this adapter as it's useless.
